FIFA Women's World Cup 2007 Update

The FIFA Women's World Cup has been going on for about two weeks already and only four teams remain to claim this year's title. Host team China was already eliminated in teh quarterinfal. This year's semifinalists include 2003 defending champion Germany, Norway, 2003 bronze medalist the United States, and Brazil (see the bracket here). All of the quarterfinal matches ended in shutouts (Germany-North Korea 3-0, Norway-China 1-0, and USA-England 3-0 except for the Brazil-Australia match which had an exciting and competetive 3-2 outcome.

The two semifinal matches will take place on Wednesday (Germany vs Norway) and Thursday (USA vs Brazil). The losers in these two matches will play for third place while the winners will play in the title match. Both matches will take place on September 30th.

Defending champions Germany and the United States came into the tournament as favorites, and the possibilty of Germany-USA final may make for an intersting match.
