Host Club Urawa Red Diamonds win bronze at the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup

It may have been Etoile du Sahel, the African club from Tunisia, that shocked the world by defeating Mexico's Pachuca and eliminating them from the 2007 Club World Cup, but it was the Urawa Red Diamonds, the host team from Japan, that took third place in their match against the Tunisian club. However, the match proved that both the Asian and African confederations can be just as competetive as their European counterpart.

The African side was up 1-0 as early as the 5th minute after penalty kick by Sabeur Frej. Urawa's Washington responded with a goal 30 minutes later to tie it 1-1, which was the scoreline at the end of the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Washington opened the scoring 25 minutes in at th 70th minute to score his second goal putting the Japanese hosts up 2-1. However, it didn't take long for Etoile to respond with a goal by Amine Chermiti five minutes later. The score was 2-2 at the end of regulation forcing the game into a penalty kick shootout which ended 4-2 in favor of the Urawa Red Diamonds.
