Croatian Soccer League: NK Rijeka defeats Hajduk Split 4-0

One month after Croatian soccer club Hajduk Split fired their coach Ivan Pudar , Hajduk, once one of the best teams in the Croatian soccer league (finished second only to first placed Dinamo Zagreb last season), lost 4-0 against NK Rijeka on Saturday causing Rijeka to rise to second place behind Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk to fall to fifth place.

As a result of this disspointing result, FIFA has reported today that the team's president will resign. President Blanko Grgic blamed this on the team's recent lossess, especially this 4-0 loss against Rijeka and is stepping down for "moral reasons."

FIFA quotes Grgic as saying:

"The team has had poor results, and I'm getting tired of it. As a president I'm the most responsible for the performance which is far below expectations."

Hajduk Split is known for its heavy rivalry against league leader Dinamo Zagreb as well as the many brawls that take place between the fan cluvs of these two teams ("Bad Blue Boys" for Dinamo and "Toricida" for Hajduk). These two fan clubs as well as others in Eastern Europe are known for lighting up flares during games. One flare-related incident at a Hajduk-Dinamo match caused the match to be delayed for a substantial amount of time due to a massive fire that resulted (see the YouTube video below for one example of the many incidents).

FIFA has not made any reports regarding a replacement as of yet.
