923 days, according to FIFA's official countdown, may seem like an eternity, but the entire soccer world, most notably South Africa, is burning with anticipation as the early stages of the 2007-2010 World Cup season draws nearer with the preliminary/quaifying round draw in Durban, South Africa this past Sunday(look out for my future posts for my own analysis and predictions regarding the draw).
The final touranemnt may not be until 2010, but South America and Oceania have already started their qualifying campaigns and did not participate in the draw. Continental zones such as Africa and Asia have already their qualifying procedure by eliminating some of their lower ranked teams in time for the preliminary round draw. The rest of the world will begin there's at different times in 2008. Specific dates, however, have not been determined. However, European national teams will start their campaign very soon after next summer's Euro Cup final tournament.
